Welcome to 2nd Ave Health Centre

Since opening our doors in 1993, Accident and HealthCare has developed into the Bay of Plenty’s largest walk in Urgent Care clinic. 

The clinic was established to fill a gap between General Practice and Tauranga's Hospital Emergency Department, where patients needed to be treated urgently but were unable to make an appointment with their doctor on the day and their conditions could be treated outside of the Hospital.

Initially, back in 1994, the clinic was staffed by 3 doctors, 5 nurses, and 6 administrative staff.  The clinic now employs over 70 staff including Urgent Care Doctors, General Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, and Administration staff.

Our clinic is Urgent Care Accredited which means we have been assessed against the Royal College of Urgent Care’s Urgent Care Standard which sets and checks standards of equipment, staffing, and policies.
 

Accident and HealthCare is the contracted after-hours clinic for your General Practice if you reside in the Bay of Plenty, and our local GPs work in the clinic throughout the year when their practices are shut so don’t be surprised if you see your family GP when presenting to the clinic.

Accident and HealthCare is located in the 2nd Avenue Health Centre on 2nd Avenue which also houses Bay Radiology, Team Dental, and Pathlab.  We have free parking available for our patients including two wheelchair parks, in addition to plenty of roadside parks in front of the building (parking fees apply).
